Modern Outfitters specializes in training and education courses that are designed to develop the ability for persistent and consistent accuracy for hunting, competition, tactical, or personal defense. Our firearms instructors teach responsible gun ownership through our tactical training courses that cover topics such as safety, handling, reloading, drawing from concealment, close quarters combat and gun fighting tenants. Our courses go beyond just tactical firearms instruction by including a curriculum that provides instructors with the tools they need to teach responsible gun ownership in a way that’s both effective and enjoyable.

Q RANCH: RATON, NEW MEXICO

Follow Through courses at Quintanilla Ranch—or “Q Ranch” as we like to call it—is all about the experience! Located outside of Raton, NM, the ranch sits on 50,000+ pine covered acres, where shooters will be provided with first-class mountain lodging in an authentic hunter’s lodge, as well as delicious chef-prepared meals & snacks.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS & GEAR LISTS: 

Scoped Carbine Course at Q Ranch is a 3-day tactical firearms training focused on the fundamentals of gunfighting, small unit tactics, and the practical application of the Tremor3 reticle.

Located in the rugged mountains outside Raton, New Mexico, shooters will be challenged by a diverse natural terrain, changing weather conditions, and 8700 ft. elevation.

Shooters will engage targets from “Close Quarters” distances out to the maximum effective range of the shooter’s individual weapon system. Developing full-field situational awareness and addressing the variables of physical and mental duress, shooters will understand what it takes to master the fundamentals of marksmanship in a practical, real-world environment.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

  • All Shooter’s MUST possess a mastery in safe weapons manipulation and the clearing of malfunctions with the AR platform or bolt-gun. (This is not a “beginner course”).
  • All shooter’s must possess an AR platform chambered in .223, .224Valkyrie, .264, .243 or .300BK.
  • Shooters must be in good health and physically able to adjust to and train at 8700 ft. elevation and move across uneven, natural terrain in the outside elements.

COURSE SUBJECTS/TOPICS COVERED:

  • Gun fighting tenets
  • Practical application of the Tremor3 reticle
  • 12” Rapid Range Estimation Drill (Developed by Todd Hodnett of Accuracy 1st)
  • Truing (introduction to the Applied Ballistic Kestrel)
  • Fire & maneuver techniques
  • Identifying Points of Domination
  • Implementation of cover and concealment
  • Target discrimination & observation of engagement feedback
  • Methods of target engagement (25 to 1000 + meters)
  • Establishing a hasty range card

RIFLE SETUP REQUIREMENTS:

Optics/sites:

  • Shooters must possess a variable powered optic with the Tremor3 reticle (Tremor2, H59, and H58 are acceptable). Leupold Scopes with Tremor3 reticle are available to loan for students on site if needed. Please let us know in advance if you will need a loaner scope.
  • Shooter’s AR will need to have an “off-set” site capability for close range engagements. (i.e. iron site or red-dot)

Ammo Requirements:

  • 700 rounds (minimum) of quality ammo are required.

Additional Rifle requirements:

  • Bi-pod
  • Two-point sling (i.e. Vickers tactical sling)
  • (3) 10/30 round magazines (at a minimum)
  • Flash Hider or suppressor only. NO MUZZLE BRAKES PERMITTED!!!

GEAR LIST:

  • Day Pack (small pack)
  • Gloves
  • Eye protection
  • Hearing protection
  • Sub-load belt or load bearing vest (to retain magazines)
  • Bump or helmet (optional)
  • Light weight hikers or trail running shoes
  • Tool (i.e. Leatherman)
  • Rear bag
  • Other personal/clothing items appropriate for variable mountain weather conditions

The Recce Carbine Course is a (3) day tactical firearms training based on the fundamentals of gunfighting and small unit tactics utilizing a “Recce” AR setup (variable or fixed powered scope, 14.5″-16″-barreled AR platform, preferred). Shooters will be challenged executing various courses of fire and maneuvering in a mountainous environment (ranging from 10-500m). Additionally, Shooters will be presented with optimal techniques and procedures in setting up and employing their Recce carbine and associated kit (lightweight pack and load bearing belt/vest).

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Shooters are required to have successfully completed a basic AR course prior to attending this course.
  • All Shooter’s MUST possess a mastery in safe weapons manipulation and the clearing of malfunctions with the AR platform or bolt-gun. (This is not a “beginner course”).

RECCE CARBINE SETUP REQUIREMENTS:

Carbine Optics:

Carbine barrel length:

  • Ideal barrel lengths for the course are 14.5” or 16”. That being said, shooters can run an SBR with a magnified optic and offset sites or an SPR with an 18” barrel, MK6 3-18, and offset sites.

Carbine Caliber(s)/Ammo Requirements:

  • 5.56, .224 Valkyrie, 300BO are authorized calibers for this course (Please contact us if you desire to run a different caliber than listed).
  • 600 rounds of quality ammo are required for the Recce course (i.e. Frontier 55gr FMJ or 62gr FMJ). Absolutely NO RELOADS!

 Additional Carbine requirements:

  • Two-point sling (i.e. Vickers tactical sling)
  • (3) 30 round AR magazines (at a minimum)
  • Flash Hider or suppressor only. NO MUZZLE BRAKES PERMITTED!!!

The Low Light Recce Carbine Course is a (3) day/night tactical firearms training based on the fundamentals of gunfighting under the cover of darkness. Shooters will be challenged executing various courses of fire and maneuvering utilizing white light and night vision in a mountain environment.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Shooters are required to possess their own night vision goggles and weapons mounted laser devices (I.e. PEQ15)
  • Shooters are required to have participated in tactical night vision training, ie former military, Law Enforcement, Night Fighter course, etc.
  • Shooters must possess a mastery in moving with NV goggles, operating weapons mounted VIS/IR laser, and operating their AR platform and optic.

FIREARM TRAINING – RECCE CARBINE SETUP REQUIREMENTS:

Carbine Optics:

  • Shooter’s Carbine must possess a fixed or variable powered optic (i.e. MK6 1-6, MK8 1.1-8, ACOG, etc.) suited for mid-range engagements out to 500 meters. The Carbine setup must also provide a close range or CQB capability with the use of an “off-set site” (i.e. Delta Pro, Dueck RTS, etc,) mounted on the handguard, primary optic, or at the 12 o’clock position on the upper receiver.

Carbine barrel length:

  • Ideal barrel lengths for the course are 14.5” or 16”. That being said, shooters can run an SBR with a magnified optic and offset sites or an SPR with an 18” barrel, MK6 3-18, and offset sites.
